About the author

Bidyut Kumar Banerjee, recipient of Presidential Award for ‘Specially Distinguished Record of Service’, joined the service in 1978 and retired on superannuation as Assistant Director, DRI (HQ.), New Delhi in the year 2016. He served for more than 25 years in premier intelligence agencies viz. Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (nowDirectorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence) and Central Economic Intelligence Bureau. He has vast experience in combating indirect tax evasion and illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and substances. He also represented India in a seminar on ‘Planning Meeting of Storm Enforcement Network on Medical Product Counterfeiting and Pharmaceutical Crime’ in Singapore, organised by INTERPOL.
He attended the ‘International Border Interdiction Training’ in U.S. organised by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and ‘Commodity Identification Workshop’ organised by Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, U.S.A. His addresses mark his knowledge and teaching experiences to the Special Judges (NDPS) and Public Prosecutors at Delhi Judicial Academy on Investigation Challenges concerning Illicit Drug Trade, Financial Investigation etc. He is associated with the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes & Narcotics and Central Detective Training Institute as guest faculty for delivering lectures to IRS Probationers, NCB officers, Superintendent, Inspectors and Police officers on various topics, including topics on enforcement provisions under the NDPS Act, 1985.

Srinivasan Gopal

Srinivasan Gopal is a graduate of the University of Madras, and he did his law from Delhi University.
Apart from the regular in-house training to various departmental officers, he is a regular faculty at the National Academy of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Faridabad for IRS Probationers and other ranks of officers of various formations of CBIC at National Academy of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Zonal Training Institutes located at Saket, New Delhi, Bhopal and Jaipur.
He has also held regular sessions for the officers of NCB, New Delhi, at the National Academy of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Zonal Training Institutes, New Delhi. He also delivers lectures at regular intervals on the NDPS Act, 1985 to the officers of Border Security Force, Shashtra Seema Bal and Indian Coast Guard.
He is also the content provider for the Mobile APP Indian Customs Traveller Guide launched by the Central Board of Excise and Customs (now CBIC), New Delhi. He has also brought out the Delhi Air Customs Manual to benefit the Departmental Officers and the general public.
